Functional Lead

What is your title at Synergy, and can you give us a gist of your responsibilities?

I am a Functional Lead, and I oversee helpdesk support to ensure customer issues are resolved promptly and effectively. My team is responsible for the resolution, escalation and triaging of most complex issues related to Operations & Maintenance.

In addition, I coordinate all audit and compliance requests for our project. I also facilitate all the reporting for our project and assist all projects with various day-to-day process inquiries.

What are three lessons you’ve learned thus far in your professional life?

Over the course of my professional career, these three lessons are among the most important ones I have learned so far.

  • Have an open mind to new ideas. If you stick with only what you know or how “it’s always been,” you won’t be able to learn anything new.
  • It’s okay to fail (in moderation). I treat every misstep as a learning opportunity. What could I have done to make it better? What can I do to remember and prevent it from occurring next time?
  • Don’t take things personally. If someone has a disagreement regarding your work or process, it should not be taken as an insult to you personally—they are working towards the same goals! It is always best to take note of their feedback and then keep moving forward to the next task at hand.

What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?

If I won the lottery, the very first thing I would do is buy a commercial lot of land to help fulfill my husband’s dream of owning his own gym. Since beginning his fitness journey, my husband has lost over 150 lb. and aspires to motivate people who struggle with weight loss. Seeing him accomplish his dream would be priceless.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Having a young family, sometimes the only spare time I get is during my commute to work. On the ride, I enjoy listening to true crime podcasts. Some of my favorites are Court JunkieMartinis and Murder and The Minds of Madness. If I can find the time, I also love to settle in with a good, suspenseful book.

Before working at Synergy, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

When I was attending West Virginia University, I interned at the WVU Creative Arts Center and sold tickets through TicketMaster for the upcoming shows. One of the neat parts of working at the center was that sometimes you got to meet the artists and their crew members.

What is your favorite sport?

Though I have never been very interested in watching sports, I love to play volleyball. I started playing when I was about six years old. During high school, my team was nationally ranked, and we won the state tournament. Unfortunately, after a back injury and a torn meniscus, I chose not to play in college, but I still enjoy playing recreationally when the opportunity presents itself.

Do you have a favorite quote?

My coach in high school used to always say, “You can’t control the uncontrollable.” This statement leads me to my favorite professional quote from Charles Lloyd, “You can control two things: your work ethic and your attitude.”
