Paul Malone

Director, Strategic Solutions

Paul Malone is Synergy’s Technical Director and Chief of Staff for the USDA Enterprise Architecture Services (EAS) Program. In this role, Paul oversees the program from a technical perspective where he implements continuous improvement policies centered on strategic plan alignment and program growth.

Paul is a former federal Chief Information Officer and a former federal budgeting professional. As the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s (mcc.gov) CIO, Paul helped MCC pivot from an infrastructure-based GSS to a virtual, cloud-based GSS better suited to the international demands of the organization.

Prior to his federal position, Paul designed and created the Budget Formulation and Execution Manager and the Performance Measure Manager for the Department of Treasury. He helped the Treasury create and run a shared services program offering BFEM and PMM to the executive branch currently used by many federal agencies.

Paul has also experienced a successful entrepreneurial stint as he founded a consulting firm to provide technical service to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and a prominent global hedge fund. During this period, he applied his deep software and system architecture expertise to build several application solutions using a variety of technologies and techniques. Additionally, he developed and marketed “Ideal Forms for Jira” available on Atlassian’s marketplace and heavily used by the federal government.

Besides the IT industry, Paul has also worked in the telecommunications industry in many engineering and technical management roles including Senior Manager, Director and Vice President.

Paul lives in Northern Virginia with his wife of thirty years, their two children, and their two dogs. When he is not working, Paul can likely be found on a boat, fishing in the Chesapeake Bay.
