Len Caretti

Project Manager

What is your title at Synergy, and can you give us a gist of your responsibilities?

At Synergy, I support the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Office of the Chief Information Officer project. This role focuses on managing various engineering projects, assessing and piloting cloud service offerings for usability by DOL.

What places have you lived in?

I grew up in Greensburg, PA, which is about 25 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. After high school, I lived in State College, PA while attending Penn State. Post college, I lived and worked in center city Philadelphia for two years, moved to Hoboken, NJ while working in mid-town Manhattan for one year, and then to Northern VA where I settled. In Northern VA, I’ve lived in Arlington, Falls Church, and now Ashburn with my wife and three children (14, 12, and 2).

What is your favorite sport?

Basketball to play, football to watch. As a child, my friends and I spent enough time at various playgrounds, driveways, and gyms playing basketball to be NBA ready. At some point we realized that just playing and enjoying it wasn’t going to get us from high school to college, let alone to the NBA! I still like to go out in the driveway and shoot around, although my jump shot has gradually morphed into a set shot. It’s possible that the amount of time on Fall Saturdays and Sundays spent on the couch watching football has something to do with it.

What is your favorite food/dish?

Meat lasagna, chicken drunken noodles, and chicken tikka masala. I’ve pretty much have the home-made lasagna perfected to our taste, my wife has done the same for the drunken noodles, and the tikka masala is a work in progress.

What is an ability you wish you had?

Two things: one is to be able to play the piano, and the second is to speak a second language. I tell my wife and children that I want to take the time and learn to do these, but then life gets in the way. Hopefully someday I’ll get to them!

What kind of music do you listen to?

I like to listen to all kinds of music! Which type of music I listen to is usually dependent on who I am with. As a family, we play music in the background during dinner with a different genre each night. We’ll rotate through today’s hits, the decades (80s, 90s, 2K), Motown, rap and hip-hop (the clean versions), and classic rock. The only type of music that I can officially say I don’t like is country—we just don’t mesh.

What have you gained from working at Synergy?

My background with DCOI is what brought Synergy and I together. Since joining, I’ve had the opportunity to branch into working on projects around cloud computing and emerging technology. These efforts are allowing me to gain valuable experience and knowledge on applying new, modern solutions to various business needs. Going forward—via participation in forums with Synergy leadership, internal operations teams, and other contract project managers—my goal is to gain insight into who we are as a company today, who we will be as a company in the future, and what I can do to play my part.
