Rod Williams

Project Manager & Scrum Master

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy traveling to new places. This year, I went to Tucson, Arizona, which was a great place to visit because of the desert beauty and mountain views. I have also been to Australia, England, France, Ireland, Italy, and St Lucia. Once COVID is over, I’m hoping to travel internationally again. Seeing new places helps me understand others better and appreciate what a great country we have.

Besides traveling, I also enjoy playing electric guitar and grilling food for my family and friends.

Do you have a motto or personal mantra?

“Living the dream” is my favorite motto since it both is encouraging and usually makes people laugh. I also like using “so far so good.” As a Project Manager, I want the team to feel free to be open and direct about how they are feeling, and I like using these mottos to start interesting conversations.

What places have you lived in? Which was your favorite place to live and why?

I grew up in Greensboro, NC and stayed there until after attending college at Appalachian State in Boone, NC. After my undergraduate education, I moved into my Uncle Jesse’s basement in Springfield, VA until I could get my own place in Falls Church. I later moved to Frederick, MD (which I soon found was too far out from work). To resolve this, I moved to Gaithersburg, MD, which was a suitable distance from work until I started working in Virginia. I moved to Cross Junction, VA for this work change, but since it is still a bit far, I use a condo in Reston during the week. Of all these places, my favorite is Reston because there are so many things to do and see here.

Do you have a favorite holiday? If so, why?

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because I get to see the whole family together. On a typical Thanksgiving Day, we go to my sister’s house, eat turkey, watch football, and then close out the day by playing basketball.

What is your favorite food/dish?

My favorite food is steak, but if I had to pick a whole dish together, I would choose butter chicken!

What drew you to Synergy originally? And how do you feel Synergy has changed since you started?

I was originally drawn to Synergy by the people. They were direct, friendly, and interesting. Synergy is a great company that is growing while maintaining the advantages of a small company. The company has continued to grow since I joined, and Synergy just keeps getting better with each new person.
